Safety Sign Materials Guide

Choosing the right sign material affects lifespan, cost and where the sign can be installed. This guide covers the four materials Safety Sign Centre most commonly supplies.

Self-adhesive vinyl

Lowest-cost option. Best for clean, flat indoor surfaces such as doors, glass and painted walls. Typical lifespan indoors: 5+ years.

Rigid PVC (1–3 mm)

Lightweight, semi-flexible board. Great all-rounder for indoor and sheltered outdoor use. Easy to drill and fix.

Aluminium composite (ACM, 3 mm)

Two thin aluminium skins around a polyethylene core. Rigid, weatherproof and our recommended outdoor sign material in Ireland.

Reflective (Class 1 / Class 2)

Engineering-grade and high-intensity reflective grades for traffic, roadside and low-light signage. Class 2 is used for road traffic signs.
