ISO 7010 Safety Signs Explained

ISO 7010 is the international standard for safety signs and pictograms. It’s the basis of safety signage used by Irish businesses and recognised by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).

Sign categories under ISO 7010

Prohibition (red circle), Mandatory (blue circle), Warning (yellow triangle), Safe condition (green square) and Fire safety (red square). Each colour and shape has a defined meaning under ISO 3864.

What Irish businesses must display

Employers must display signs to warn of hazards, mandate PPE, mark fire exits and identify firefighting equipment under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007.
